Not sure if this is the correct place to post but I am trying to find out how many generations I have to go back to find out which of my ancestors brought my maiden name "Pugh" from Wales where I assume it originated.

On the BCC I have found John Pugh who had a son called William B 1851 West Bromwich, he married Selina Siviter in 1872. William was my Great G Father. They had a son called John and he died when my father was a child.

Up until today, I only knew of William and Selina but I can see from BCC that I now have John Pugh

I wonder if anyone could help me by looking up in census records please? Selina and William lived on Old Hill
but I have no information any further back.

Any help or guidance appreciated.

Let us know how you get on Jano if you can post the info when you get it
we can add to Bcc.
When you look it up the last no on this ref is the actual number for the marriage entry
so you go to the church
then year
then entry 239
