Bit of an ancient one, so I don't hold out a lot of hope, but thought I'd post it so it turns up in Google results for other researchers if nothing else!

Nicholas Barsham, born around 1740, I believe in Grimston, Norfolk.
Married Elizabeth Mason (my 4th g.grandmother) in Grimston 13 Jan 1764, and was already widowed at the time.
They later had a daughter, Caroline Jane Barsham, baptised 14/09/1764 in Grimston.

So far, I've completely failed to find any reference to Nicholas' birth, parents or first marriage. It's a bit frustrating, as I know he's descended from the De Barsham armorial family from Colkirk in Norfolk and, if I can connect him, I can trace the tree back to early 1500s and some of the early founders of Massachusetts :?

Hi Pete,

Annoyingly, they're probably all my lot - I just can't get back that far! The family seem to have been quite wealthy, then suddenly sold up, shipped down to Suffolk and then off to America. I'm sure my lot either decended from one stray family member left behind, or from someone who returned from the US. The US branch is all fantastically documented but, typically, my lot all seem to be particularly evasive :(
