Anyone else had this trouble: Have reported three trancription errors on FMP
this week...blatantly wrong, crossed checked with previous and following census dates.
Each time they have responded....'After careful consideration No alteration is required'.
Just shows that it is worth checking images of 'similar' names and not rely on the transcribed.

I have reported hundreds of errors of FMP, Ancestry and The Genealogist and they have always agreed with me.

I think it is all in how you word your error report.

I am wondering Spark-Stopper, from the way you've worded your post, about cross-checking with previous Census, if you are saying that a name has been transcribed, which looks like the written entry but you know it has been written down incorrectly? I may have misunderstood you but I had a case like that, where the name had been spelt incorrectly and the transcription was as the name was written. In those cases, they will not alter the transcription, no matter what previous evidence you may have.

They will only amend it if there is an incorrect interpretation of the written name. This may not be what you actually meant but this could help others in that situation. And yes it is frustrating when your family is there, with the wrong name.

I havent reported anything to FMP but I have to ancestry many times. On ancestry there are options to pick from, like alternative name, transcription error etc. Do FMP?
I have transcribed many records and the rule is type what you see.
What names, see what we think too?
Dont lose heart doing it though. It will help someone one day

They had on all three occasions mis-trancribed the written image: it was obvious to me, but they did not agree.
for instance: A couple with name of WESTON ...underneath a child...definately WATTON but transcribed WESTON.

I have had a census where another family have been put with the family I am interested in ,and the head of the other family aged 20 has suddenly become the mother of a 30 year old man. Stupid! I corrected it, and later i had a E.mail from Ancestry apologising for their error, and thanking me for putting it right.

I've only had a few FMP errors where they didn't agree with me - if memory serves, these were the first few I reported. If they change it, it's impossible to see what the original transcription was.
I do like ancestry's system, where the reader can make up their own mind, although it is a bit lax.
