Hi
I dont know if I have posted this in the correct place but here goes
My Grandad Cecil Bate Married my Gran Gladys May Cartwright in July 1926 West Bromwich Register Office. I have the Marriage Cert.
On the marriage cert it states Gladys father as Joseph Cartwright, I have tried looking on the 1911 census to see if I can find the family, so I can find the Birth Reg for Gladys, but cant find a Gladys with a father Joseph.
I have looked on Freebmd for the birth reg of Gladys May (1909) and can find one in Dudley district but I think this one died a year or two later.
There is one for Gladys (1909) no middle name West Bromwich District. The family have always known her to be Gladys May was her middle name was added later.
Where do I go from here? should I send for the West Bromwich Birth reg? if so how will I know if its the right one?

I checked out the Dudley birth and that was a twins birth, sadly the one twin Clara Ann died just after birth, and Gladys May died within the next two years so I ruled that one out. Funny though because Gran and Grandad had twin girls and they died just after birth too

Just a thought, would I be able to view the ER for 1926 to see who was living at 100a Great bridge St? If so where would I go to view, would it be West Brom Library?

It was 1928 before Married Women were on the Electoral Roll. Maybe held at Birmingham or Sandwell?

Smethwick Archives do have the ER's for Great Bridge. They will charge to have a look for you - if you can wait until next week - I'll have a look for you. Women are included in the ER's at Smethwick Archives from 1919.
