Following on from DTs post here:

Checked to see what I have:
William Henry I can find in 1891 and 1901 with his parents Henry and Jane, and in 1911 ( a hairdresser living in Cinder Bank, Netherton, with his new wife Ethel.

Apart from the above I can only find Henry in 1871 (aged 11) with parents Elijah (60) and Maria (55).

I can't see Elijah in any other census! He was b 1810 Brierley Hill and d 1875 (bur 24 Feb at Brierley Hill).

I have Elijah married 12 Dec 1830 St Thomas, Dudley, to Mary Ann White. This couple had:
Sarah 1831-1832
Thomas 1832
Maria 1839
Elijah 1841
All bapt Brierley Hill

Elijah was the son of Benjamin Shakespeare 1777-1819 and Sarah Baker - think they are on BCC.

Ages are out, but Elijah did have siblings Maria and William.

As far as I know there was only one Elijah of the correct period (one b 1820 in Dudley died 1822).
So, question is, where was his wife and other children in 1861 - did they all die? Are the children in 1861 census entry his? Did he marry again before Henry was born in 1860?
Can anyone read marital status in 1861?

Elijah looks like Widower to me.

Thanks, that would make sense. Possibly the 1862 marriage to Maria Jones is a second marriage.
Can discount the 1858 marriage to Harriet Perrins as that is for an Elijah born abt 1835 - they appear in later censuses.

This Elijah is possibly the son of the Elijah b abt 1810? Is 2 year old Henry his brother?

So we're thinking that Elijah 1810ish is the son of this Benjamin & Sarah Shakespeare?

That looks possible Di, Elijah and Mary Ann had a son Thomas bapt 1832

I will add what I can for now. It might make more sense?
