The Harris Family

Morning everyone - sorry this is a bit long, but it's a bit of a poser

Can you have a look at this please : two things here :

I have added the family of Henry Oakley here :

http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... i=88577586

Henry was married twice and the witnesses on the marriages are the same, except one says Harrison, but I think this should be Harris, as I can't find Robert or Elizabeth Harrison anywhere.

I've been in touch with someone, who is also related to this family, but she thought Henry had married an Ann Bradley, as this is the mother's maiden name on birth certs for three of the children - she has sent me copies and this is correct. Something wierd here - I think these marriages are correct, so either Ann Edwards died and Henry married again, or was just living with Ann Bradley, or the Vicar had had one two many and wrote the wrong name, or maybe Ann's mother remarried someone called Edwards. There is no marriage recorded for Henry Oakley and Ann Bradley.

and secondly ......

I thought witness Robert Harris (witness at both marriages and living next door to Henry and Ann in 1861) might be related to Henry's mother Esther Harris, so have added more information to what was already on BCC for Robert's family, who live mostly in St James Parish, Dudley, same place as the Oakley's, to try and find a connection here : http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =653795140

Esther is recorded on BCC as the daur of Thomas and Hannah Harris - but she says through all of the census records that she is born in Dudley, and all of their other children are born in Cradley. Also, one of Esther and Josiah's children is Abraham (family name?). I can't find a baptism for the Dudley Esther, but I think we have two Esthers here.

So ...... any ideas anyone, it's doin me ead in ????

Hi Maggie I researched that Harris family, they lived in Surfeit Hill, which is Cradley Heath, but just off Corngreaves Road which runs into Cradley. Esther's Baptism at St Peter's Cradley was the 21.8.1811. Could be two Esther's :?: Will have a look later today, am child minding at the moment. :-) Linell.

That's what I thought Lin - I can't find another Esther but she does say on all of the Census information that she was born in Dudley

Thanks for looking

There are another couple of Marriages for an Esther Harris on the IGI, one is Clent, maybe NL will look that up.

groom's name: Stephen Green
groom's birth date:
groom's birthplace:
groom's age:
bride's name: Esther Harris
bride's birth date:
bride's birthplace:
bride's age:
marriage date: 09 Oct 1831
marriage place: Clent, Worcester, England
groom's father's name:

The other one was in Aston, (LDS always refer to it as Aston Juxta, don't know why :?: )

groom's name: William Musgrove
groom's birth date:
groom's birthplace:
groom's age:
bride's name: Esther Harris
bride's birth date:
bride's birthplace:
bride's age:
marriage date: 16 Jul 1821
marriage place: Aston Juxta Birmingham,Warwick,England
groom's father's name:

I see that the Marriage of Esther to Josiah was at Halesowen, which in all probability is not a Dudley Bride, they had enough Churches of their own over there, that Esther must have been from Halesowen/Rowley area, I would think :?: Linell.

I thought that too Lin - it was just all the other Harris's around the family, all from the St James area of Dudley, and the fact that she always said she was from Dudley. Although having said that a few of my Dudley families married in Halesowen.

I looked at that other Esther who married in Stephen Green in Clent and I think this one is more likely to be the daur of Thomas and Hannah

Marriage Details for this marriage are :
Stephen Green X Bach, of the Parish and Sarah Harris, X, of the Parish of Rowley Regis, By Banns
Wit : Thomas Westwood X and Mary Ann Harris X

On BCC - her sister Mary Ann married Thomas Westwood

Ooh that is my Esther from Surfiet Hill then.

Will you change it on BCC Maggie, or shall I do it :?:

Glad that is sorted, well done, from Linell.
