Christmas Dinner Suggestions please

I would love some suggestions for variation on what I usually do.

I am doing Rib of Beef - Roast pots- new pots
Broccoli in Cheese sauce Carrots in Orange
sausage in bacon

and I am bored with it

deff doing the Beef and roasties but any ideas how to zing it up

How should I cook the beef ....ie wot to put on it?
Roasties...duck fat or goose fat

veg new ideas please

I get a big dish and cut up loads of leeks, layer them with cheese salt and pepper.Last layer as cheese on top. Then pour enough milk to cover. Bake in the oven at about 180 for about 1h 30m or until the leeks are soft and the cheese on top is a nice and crispy ,like cheese on toast.We have it at Christmas because my son in law loves it, but its nice at any time.

Not with this dish, but you can if you want too like potato gratin. Never done both together but i don't see why not .I think it would be really nice. :-) Yum Yum Yum

So what are the potatoes you mention above you say "until the potatoes are soft"

are they not in the dish? which pots take an hour and a half :shock:

Hi , its me .I am so dopey. I should have said till the leeks are soft .Forget about the potatoes. I will try and change the recipe. :lol:

Gottcha! sounds nice I will try the leeks one.

and will use Goose fat for pots ususally do makes them nice.

I have changed it now to leeks, but because you are cooking in milk ,you might have to turn the oven down ,otherwise (like a rice pudding) the milk can rise and overflow. I do cook the same recipe in potatoes ,which is also very nice. :-)

Orange sauce is for duck. I think the idea is that the orange being citrate takes away the grease from the goose.

Quite right Nl. My lot do not like xmas pudding . I do but its a waste to make one just for me. So I have to make home-made chocolate Scorce .I make them (my two daughters) buy the ice cream, I have in the past done my own in the freezer. :-)
