England, Midlands Electoral Registers, 1832-1955 were released on Ancestry today.

Great for tracking the occupation and whereabouts of your ancestors after 1911.

The 1918 register is brilliant as it gives the regiment and regimental number of any troops registered to vote.

Nobody can make head or tales of Grandad Dodd's medal card.

All I have known for years is that he was in the R.F.A.

That is only slightly better than saying he was in the army!

Those records showed me he was in the 51st R.F.A battery.

Doing some research I found that is part of the 39th Brigade R.F.A.

Some further research shows that was attached to the 1st Division.

So now I have a list of where he was at each stage of the war. What battles he was in and have some idea of where he was shot and wounded.

Thanks Mark for letting us know about the list, i found my grandad and my dad with the rest of the family on the Electoral Rolls. Dt

Worcestershire archives also have the 1919 absentee voter list free to use on their site.

It is amazing what regiments Black Country people ended up joining.

Can't seem to find West Bromwich on it, none of the my lot show up, just had a look through the Sandwell section for 1912, none of the street names I was looking for came up.

I think Its Birmingham at the moment. I was lucky because Handsworth came under Brum by them ,so i was able to find my paternal grandparents and my mom ,dad uncles and aunts. Dt
