Hi guys,

I have been trying to trace an ancestor Benjamin BAKER (b. 1824 in Lichfield). I can only seem to follow him until the 1861 census and then he disappears?

1824 Birth Lichfield, England, United Kingdom
1851 Age: 27 Residence Coventry St Michael, Warwickshire, EnglandFleet Street, Coventry. Occupation: Paviour
1861 Age: 37 ResidenceBirmingham, Warwickshire, England85 Holliday Street, Occupation: Paviour

I'm trying to find a year of death. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Darren

Is that him? Where is he living then? There is a death in Walsall area that might fit?

I'm not a 100 percent sure, but it would be great to hear from you if you have a possible match in the area. I'm so stumped that I'm planning to follow up any leads!

Thanks,
Darren

Hi
That looks OK for him in 1871

Benjm Baker lodger widower 48 paviour Staffs Lichfield
living in Walsall along with his son Athur, boarding with Charles Stokes and his wife.

Then in the 1881 Arthur is married and with a young family.

I think this might fit

Deaths Dec 1875
BAKER Benjamin 51 Walsall 6b 404

If he was 48 in 1871 he would have been 48+4=52 (and I would say that is close enough to chase it up? (And spot on if he should have been 47 in the census)
I don't know if Walsall records are online at all.

Hi Gardener, this has been really helpful. I will certainly order the certificate and confirm the finding... Also, thanks to your discovery of Arthur (Benjamin's son) I have been able to follow another BAKER line of enquiry on ancestry! and I have enjoyed a saturday afternoon researching. :P
