I am trying to find any information on my gt gt grandfatehr, here is what i have on him and his family...
Michael Rooney was born 1839, in Preston Lancashire, i have him on the 1971, and later census after he was married, i have no info on his parents all i have on him is details from the parish records of St wilfreds in Preston a baptism for him, which states his father was Thomas Rooney (my father had told me his gtgt grandfather was named Thomas, his mother was ellen, thats all i have, cannot find him on the 1851 or 61 census in Preston, On the 1841 census michael is aged 2 living with a family called magee, and on the census in back bridge street in preston, it says there is a Ellen magee living there and i am thinking this could be michaels mother, michaels birth was not registered so i cannot find info from a birth certiifcate for him, Thomas Rooney died in 1840 from thypus aged 25, in 1841 census there is only this one michael rooney the correct age living in preston, have looked for other matching ones but i cannot find any, i would love to go back on my rooney family, i believe they were irish going back over the years in our family, any help or advice would be much appreciated, the records office in preston have been unable to help.
Thank you
Berndette

Did the baptism record have an occupation for Thomas.

I wondered about that one too, what with the big age gap between kids. But I couldn't find a marriage, or find the family in 1861.

Hi and thanks for all the replies, No it did not give an occupation for Thomas Rooney on Michaels baptism, just parents names no surname for michaels mother just said thomas rooney and ellen.
I was told by my father that going back the famnily came from Ireland but i do not know when they arrived from ireland to uk.
Wish i could give you all more info but i dont have anything else.
Thanks again
Bernadette

Do you have Michael's wedding certificate? Sometimes the witnesses can help sort things out.
