ARC TBC - Aldridge Orphanage.........

I've spent the last 20 years tring to find the birthplace of my Grandad, Albert Edward Taylor.
We know his life from the onset of World war One and his life after that.
The tale is that he was taken to an orphanage in Aldridge when he was 5 by an aunt and that's all we have.
No birth certificate, his supposed birthday of July25th doesn't match up with any at the register iffices, we've gone 5 years either side of his supposed year of his birth. He died in 1938 of TB and his birth certificate said he was 39. ( from memory) He also said his Dad's name was also Albert Edward Taylor.
We've found a couple of maybe birth certificates but no proof.
I discovered that the orphanage was run by the Buffs ( RAOB)

Hi Peter, thanks for the link.
In checking that I find the only orphanage in Aldridge was the Buffs.
I went to the Grand Lodge in Harrogate a couple of weeks ago (122miles!) and searched through the admission book and of course he wasn't in there.
I'd also gone through the school records of the Church school nearby some years previously where he would have attended had he been at the orphanage .
The people at the RAOB said that the orphanage at that time was probably the only one in the county.
Might there be other organisations than this orphanage where kids might have been taken ?
Am I perhaps barking up the wrong tree ?

Hello ecca,
Let"™s forget about the tale of Albert Edward Taylor being sent to an orphanage for now and try to concentrate on the facts that you have.
1) Can you give us the information on the death certificate?
2) Can you give us the information on his marriage certificate to your grandmother?
3) Do you have his World War 1 records?
If you can supply the above information perhaps we"™ll be able to help you a little more.

Thanks for reply, I'm sorry about the delay.
I have the death and wedding certificates.
I have his war record and have been to the barracks in Whittington and have spoken of him and his life during the Great War.
What information specifically should I be looking for ?
Thanks again for your help.
Eric
