I have just received my copy of A Mirror to the Flock looks very interesting, can someone tell me what "Gledes" means,

I presume it is some form of occupation.

Gledes under a door isnt that a saying?

Have you read what the Greek/latin/shorthand he uses in the book ? That will explain what RF added.

Yes that is him on BCC my 2 great grandfather, my mum was surprised when I first found him ar Cradley as she always thought they were a Delp/Commonside family, I gussed he was living with mary before they married from the census and marriage date. I can't find what heppened to his daughter Ann born about 1846 mother Charlotte smart though.
