A short piece on narcolepsy.
Just remember when you are watching that anybody at any time can become a narcoleptic.
He is wrong about it being passed down from the mother.
There is a genetic marker that makes you more prone to becoming narcoleptic but not all narcoleptics have the marker and the marker can be passed on from both parents.

With the huge amount medication I take I stay awake as long as I am active.
I take 400mg of Modifinil per day to stay awake 16 hours.
They give 100mg to combat pilots to keep them awake for 48 hours.
No matter how much sleep I have had or drugs taken, within five minutes of sitting down to watch TV I will fall asleep.
I have to keep moving so if i want to watch a movie or TV I sit on an exercise bike and pedal.

No, nothing helps with the memory except mental exercise.
I started my family tree research purely to exercise the memory.

Modifinil is a smart drug. It helps people with a healthy brain to remember things. American University students buy them over the internet and take them leading up to exams. Most Universities now screen for the drug.

Nobody knows how Modifinil works.
It was accidentally discovered when they were trying medications to control Parkinson Disease.
All we know is it suppresses the urge to sleep.
It does not stop you going to sleep when you want to. It just helps prevent the sleep attacks.
There have been no long terms studies on possible permanent side effects on a healthy brain.
I have been taking it the longest of anybody in Australia, and since the USA switched to a different formula (Modifinil R), probably the world.
The drug you buy over the internet is not guaranteed to be pure.
My Modifinil is subsidized by the government.
Prior to the subsidy it was costing me about $250 a week.
In the UK most narcolepetics are put on G.H.B, the Date Rape Drug.
On the street it is called G.B.H for Grievous Bodily Harm. It is so easy to overdose on the stuff.
That is not an option in Australia but I have been on Met Amphetamines (ICE) but my body got used to it too quickly and I was having to take doses that could kill a smaller person.
I used to take Ritalin (the drug given to help kids with Attention Deficit Disorder) to help control the Cataplexy.
Each narcoleptic requires their drugs and routine to be fine tuned. So there are rarely two with the exact same medication types or dosages.

Encountered one in my R.A.F. time,
Wayne Groves, we had to check up on him after half an hour from him getting a technical job to do on Argosy aircraft. I think his services were dispenced with.

Cheers, Tony.
