It's election day here in Holland.Looks like a straight fight between right wing VVD and left wing PvdA.
I'm not allowed to vote even though i've lived and worked here 42 years.

Still British you see.My wife and kids can vote though being born here. What i can't understand is the fact that some countries allow you to have 2 passports therefore giving them the right to vote.

You only need Permanent Resident status in Australia which you would qualify for.

According to the Radio 4 news this morning it looks like the extremists have done badly and the pro EU centre parties have come out ahead.

if they give you the vote, what would you want next? to wash your car on your driveway ?

Looks like some people have been sleeping in the knife drawer!!
On a serious note, yes SRD it looks like the extremists in Holland have taken a knock in their efforts. One of their issues was to restrict immigration which strangely enough i'm actually in favour of.And that's got nothing to do with race or religion!!

I'm still British too, I can't vote in General Elections, but I can in local and european elections. It's not so much what passport I have (cause I could have a passport issued by the danish authorities), more a question of nationality!
From what they were saying here, it sounds like the right wing lot are losing votes!

Same situation here, I can only vote in the local elections. I have finally decided to apply of Icelandic citizenship though it remains to be seen if I get my act together and do it! Apart from references, proof that I have taken x-hours of Icelandic lessons, and paid for and taken a test in Icelandic, I also need a certficate from the UK police saying I have no criminal record!!! Considering I left the UK almost 30 years ago I think they could dispense with that one!

Your citizenship application has been refused due to your interest in hunting down dead people.

You are all so mean!
I take it there is no point asking any of you for a reference then?
