I think James should be Joseph in 1841 and that would sort it out
William who married Elizabeth must be a brother of Joseph

Thus Elizabeth must be Elizabeth Bates

There are some comprehensive trees on Ancestry with all these Beards but they do not have William marrying Elizabeth so they must have missed the relationship between Isaac and his Uncle John Beards because it is mixed up on Census records . As such I think there trees are wrong .
