Since I don't have a husband any more - I get Kleen Off - very good, but keep your doors and windows open and wear gloves and glasses

I've got one of those ovens which has self-cleaning sides so I only have to clean the bottom and the glass door. I put a single layer of kitchen roll on both and then spray it with kitchen surface cleaner (I use diluted Ajax liquid actually), close the door and leave it a few hours. Almost everything wipes off then in the kitchen roll and the few stubborn bits come off with washing-up liquid and light scrubbing.

This is the cooker I used to use for about 8 years, since she kicked me out in Feb, it looks like something as been cremated in it, with a lot of elbow grease, brillo pads, and the Kleen off its getting better.

You can't beat Oven Pride and no nasty fumes either. I am in the habit of moving house, when the built in oven needs a clean.

Don't have to now.
You can buy it for around £3.00 in most major supermarkets, so don't be fooled by some places that offer it for around £6.00.
You take all the shelves out and the sides, if they are the rack variety. Put them in the huge sealable, strong, plastic bag. Pour about half the bottle into it, seal it up and place it on the draining board. Turn it at frequent intervals thoughout the day. If anything like mine and what should look like shiny chrome, actually looks like a toffee coating on it, you'll want to leave it far longer than suggested. I give the shelves a little massage too, though the plastic, to make sure everything is getting coated.
Put on the supplied protective gloves and with a small sponge (one of those washing up ones will do) coat the inside of the oven with as much of the remaining liquid as is needed. I leave mine over night so make sure you've planned a meal that doesn't require the oven.
Rinse off. If you have some really thick burnt on bits, you will probably find you have some cleaner left, you can tackle those again. It honestly will get through the most burnt on grease. As for the shelved, the worst bits, mat need a little nudge with a scourer but honestly, no scrubbing require.
This is my old oven, which had been 50 shades of brown, I took this to show my friend, who also hates cleaning her oven.

My problem was I can only take the racks out, not the sides.
