Total Novice with a thirst to learn

Morning,

introduced myself yesterday and having worked in photo restoration - redrosephotos.co.uk - for a while my curiousity has finally got the better of me. I am however a total newbie when it comes to this so some tips as to where I can start looking would be fantastic.

The names I'm looking to start tracing are Meek - Mr Mother's side - and Cleminson - my Father's side. I appreciate that both my Grandmother's have their maiden names but in the first instance I'm going to start of small. If the advice is to start with just one name then Meek will be my starting point.

As far as I know both names have Nottingham links as far back as the 1900's? I'm assuming there are some online resources to get me started and I'm very eager to do the work and investigate myself, I'm just after some pointers in the first instance.

I'm looking to trace the family back as far as possible really and I don't really have much of an idea where to start. Unfortunately the family doesn't have much information to go on. Like I say, I have the names and I know the names of my grandparents so if someone could give me a pointer in the right direction as to where to start I'd appreciate it.

you could also try googling the name with place of birth, date of birth etc someone on another site might have done research allready but check any research you are given incase of errors

How about start with a Marriage certificate that you may have and work back.

We can in this section then show you how to seach.
We don't give you the answers in this section but can then give you the pointers to
search yourself.

Thanks for all the pointers, I really want to learn as I go and having read the sticky in the forum I think it's good that the answers aren't provided and that you just get clues to learn yourself.

I don't have a marriage certificate but my Mum may hold some stuff somewhere in relation to Grandparents so I'll ask her and come back here if that's ok. I'll also look in to some of the other suggestions and report back.
