ARCHIVE..Elizabeth 'Johannet' m Amos Sidaway, Rowley Regis

Post by sp1 »

Just looking at some 'odds & ends' and wondered about Elizabeth 'Johannet' on BCC here:
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... net-Family

Is this a latinised form of Jones??
Probably doesn't help find exactly who she is, but it might be worth a look in the Rowley Regis parish registers, which I dont have handy.

That's the one. Just wondered if, as I said, the surname is a form of Jones? Does the vicar at the time use this for other Jones's?

Looks like a Huguenot surname. There were Johannots involved in the paper-making industry after they came to England as religious refugees.

There certainly seem very few of them, so this marriage looks very likely.
I think a marriage lookup is needed to see if it gives other place of origin - there is a William bapt around the right time in Worcs on IGI, and the name Mapp also does not seem that common.
