Finding the Sedgley Workhouse on the 1901 Census

I'm trying to complete my records to add to BCC my Great Grandmother, whom I can't find anywhere. As she has a name that likes to have various spellings, I was hoping to look through those listed on the 1901 Census at the Workhouse in Sedgley, as she gave birth there in 1900 and it was given as her residence, I wondered if she was still living there. The trouble is, I can't find it on the address search on Find My Past, I know it was know as 10 Burton Road but it isn't coming up in Burton Road at all.

Does anyone know how I can find it? Maybe if you had a relative there at that time, you could post here or message me their details, I'd then be able to search from there.

Hi Lulu

You might want to try Dudley Archives - I know that they have transcribed loads of records from Dudley Workhouse.

Or try the browse on Ancestry and look through the Sedgley addresses. I'm sure you already know, but although Dudley is in Worcestershire, Sedgley is in Staffordshire.

Here is the link on Ancestry - shown as Dudley Union Workhouse, Sedgley, Staffordshire

Sorry, don't have the 1901 on FMP.

Ah well! Been through the lot and no one that looked as if they might have been her. I didn't really expect to see her there but just thought the chance of a mis-spelling in a large institution might have been the answer. She had another baby later in 1901 and said she was living at her Mother's then, at Furnace Hill, Hawne. She is the most frustrating woman!

Thanks for the help.

You might find her on the transcribed records at Dudley Archives.

Thanks Maggie. We did ask a few years ago and they said the records had been lost, maybe the ones I need turned up again. I shall have to have a word with them, see if it's worth a visit.

They're definitely there now - I transcribed some a couple of years ago.
