ARC TBC............David Willetts m Sarah Westwood. 8/5/1848

Post by blackcountrybiker »

You have these two on BCC -
David Willetts b. ABT 1828 in Dudley, Worcestershire m. Unknown, Sarah
David is son of Thomas Willetts b est 1796 and Sarah (Unknown)...

I have the birth certificate of Esther Willetts, (David and Sarah's youngest daughter and my great grandmother). It is dated 17 April 1865 and names Sarah Willetts as formerly Westwood. The address is given as Dudley Wood, Worc's, which would tie in with the fact that they lived at Bowling Green where David (A Master Chain Maker no less!) had his chain shop.
Now I'm looking for Sarah Westwood's family.
The 1851 census has them living in Lomey Town, (now Lower High Street) Cradley Heath, 1861 they were at Bowling Green, 1871 they're living at the Crown Inn, Halesowen Rd, Netherton and by 1881 they're back at Bowling Green and David is now a nail maker.

I think this could be the marriage - 8th May 1848.
Willetts, David; Westwood, Sarah: St Thomas, Dudley, Worcestershire, England - Dudley Register 204/008/441

At this rate we'll have the whole of Dudley, Cradley and Rowley as one big happy family

Help!!! I can't find any other mention of this Sarah Westwood with a father named Joseph? The only one I've found is a Joseph Westwood in Harbourne with a Sarah as a daughter born about the right time. When she appears on later census forms her "birthplace" is given as Rowley Regis. Any ideas :?:

Thanks for all the hints Jimmy, I think the "Cradley Worcestershire" one is a different Cradley though. I just found this one browsing through the 1841 census though...

1841 - Cradley Heath. No address given but it's only 4 doors down from Isaac Willetts and his family. Isaac was a brother of David (Sarah's future husband).

Joseph Westwood 35 nailer
Elizabeth Westwood 35
Sarah Westwood 10
Samuel Westwood 10
Joseph Westwood 5

Am I right in thinking the ages were all rounded up/down on the 1841 census? that would make all of their ages close to what I'm looking for

ages were rounded down for adults to the nearest 5 years eg 24 = 20 and 29 = 25
