I have been researching my family tree on and off since 2000 and have a lot of information, but I hope to solve some loose ends here. I hope that your military records might help on some lines. Some surnames I am interested in are: Tylden, Abdy, Bonham Carter, Kemble, Ireland and Shallcross.

Where are your Irelands from? I have several in my tree, originating in Winchcomb, Glos. They moved about a bit, but ended in Handsworth and Walsall.

Thanks for the messages of welcome.

Snoopysue asked where my Irelands came from. They were from Ireland, though at a time before independence. They were connected with the wealthy Stanley family, many of them had Stanley as a middle name. Going right back to the early 1600s they are from Hale Hall, Lancs, if one believes all the links.

My first male Ireland ancestor going back was Captain James Stanley Ireland born in 1782 in County Mayo Ireland of Low Park Roscommon. He died in France in 1856. I was able to get an enormous amount of information about him from his French death certificate. There is a copy on line.

If you go to this link http://www.icivosorigines.fr/ and follow the Facebook link, there is a page with a copy of his death certificate. There is also an example of a French marriage certificate. The French certificates give a lot more information than the English. They really do know they are born! I would recommend this website if you need French information, the person who runs it is English born and bred, but living and researching in France.
