This is my first day of retirement!!!
I'm on my own in the house cos my wife's gone swimming.Well i say on my own one of my daughters is asleep in the attic but she's on nights.
Sitting here behind my computer drinking a cup of Douwe Egberts and you know what i won't miss it,work, one jot!!!
What shall i do next? The garden?Bit of painting? Sort out the connections between Harbutt,Fisher and Frain? Ho hum maybe i'll just sit here.Hang on just heard the car coming up the drive!!!

Its luvely, being retired, Rob, just luvely!!! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
But I do think it's important to have something constructive to do... and for me that most certainly is not housework! If it wasn't for my Tai Chi teaching ( and going away travelling for 4 months of the year), I'd probably be a gibbering idiot by now (Don't say it, Mark... just don't.

)

I'd love to go travelling for 4 months a year !!....but somehow the English pension won't run to it.
I am a gibbering idiot.

Talking of English pensions do you think i'd be entitled to something? I worked in England from April 1965 to March 1970.I paid income tax and all that i think. To tell the truth i was only bothered what i had in my paypacket and i can't recall ever noticing what sort of things they were stopping me for.

Should i have took more interest back then?

It's worth asking the question, but I couldn't get my pension until I was 63, because I hadn't enough stamps. Didn't start work until I was about 35.

I'm not all envious, the way things are going the government will have me working until I'm 75! I'll be hobbling round the hospital with my zimmer frame shouting at anyone in my way!!
As the others have said, Rob hope you enjoy your retirement

Happy Retirement Rob and welcome to the Club. I just love being retired. I doubt very much you'll be entitled to any pension from over here though. My brother worked here for 7/8 years and emigrated to America, but on his retirement he was told he wasn't entitled to any pension from England.
All the best.

Here's wishing you a long and happy retirement from me too Rob !!
Whilst we were in Dublin last week, a taxi driver told my husband he would be entitled to a pension for the years he worked before coming here.
It was only about 5 years, but he said it would be worth it!
mmmm think I'll go and remind him ..........
