Thankyou all for information. I wish to add more. William migrated to Australia 1879, married Elizabeth Bauman 1884. All this is listed on the forum. Elizabeth died 1885 and their son Henry(b.1885) in 1906.However, Elizabeth is not my g,mother. William next appears in Winton Queensland with Lydia Archena McCallum(nee MARTIN b.1875) as his "housekeeper". Five children born in Winton.
Lydia Ophelia 1895; William Martin 1896; Edward Charles 1899 (my father); John Norman 1903: Ada Lillian 1908. All these births are registered by William HOMER as "friend" of the family!!
Archena died 1908, William 1914-the children became orphans and entered State care. Del Ward (nee HOMER)

Found a story on Ancestry which says that Lydia Archena's father was murdered:

"Death
Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia March 9th.
A man named Joel Archable Martin was stabbed last evening by a German named John Wenzell. Both were working at Doctor Nelson's near Toowoomba. The knife entered just below Martin's ribs, and there is no hope of his recovery.'
