little Koala which just walked into the back porch looking for a bit of

Those bush fires are terrible!

It's been a horrible weekend!

Saturday was over 46 C here with a searing hot Northerly wind (straight off the inland desert). Fires just seemed to be starting up everywhere ... and moving so fast! For once the Dandenong Ranges where I live weren't involved, but at least 2 beautiful mountain townships not too far away were completely wiped out. They just don't exist anymore!

The fires are still going although the weather has moderated a little and they don't seem to be firestorms the way they were on Saturday and early Sunday. But many townships and farms are still threatened and actively burning.

Most of us who live in bushy areas have "Fire Plans" and we are encouraged to decide early whether we are going to clear out or stay and defend our homes. I had always thought I would stay and defend, but the effects of this fire are so drastic that I have completely changed my mind. Any fire looks like heading my way and I'm out of here!!!

The toll of confirmed deaths is already 128 and it is expected to reach 230.

Di, the news here is constant about the dangerous and devastrating nature of these wild fires, they are so horrendous some places here can see the smoke cloud on the horizon, what's totally unbelievable some of these fires have been started by arsonist, what idiots!!..our thoughts here are with you all.

Bet that was a huge relief!

Fantastic!!! All fires but one now declared "contained" and that one has "subsided" and is not near any residential areas. However, it has burnt out 50% of our most beautiful National Park

Anyway, everyone is feeling much more relaxed. Now the rebuilding begins.
