Mary Shakespeare born 27 Dec 1840, (Daughter of Edward Shakespeare/ Caroline Henley) on BCC here:

married a John Ricketts (b abt 1827) and had a son John Ricketts b 1876 (Dudley). Havent found their marriage.

She also married a Peter Penn, b 1835 in France, (m 1860) and had children Mary b 1860 and Peter b 1864.

Her first husband was a Michael Doyle m 1868, and had children Thomas b 1868, and Edward b 1870. Can find nothing else about Michael Doyle, he misses being on the census with her, and havent found his death. Their children are on one of the census's with Edward and Caroline Shakespeare, with their surname spelled 'Diel'

All these events took place in Dudley - confirmed by census and FreeBMD - Mary seems to have lived either with her parents (at various times) or just a few doors away, and her children also appear in the census at different times with her parents.

Now, the interesting connection: John Ricketts, b 1876, who is a cousin on my fathers side, Married Emma Rollason (1874 - 1949), who was a cousin on my mothers side!

Think that death for Michael Doyle is too late as she was already married to John Ricketts before then. See you have found the census confirming her and John - will try to add more tomorrow: am on my phone at moment so don't have access to info : am about to go out as it is my birthday!

I think you know Michael Doyle is on the 1871 and then 1881 married
he seems to be from Clare? Ireland.
Liverpool on 1871 and 1881 ..........could be the reason no marriage for Mary as she still married!

The John Ricketts b 1827 seems to have been born in Broom, Warks
He is on 1861 census in Oakeywell Street, Dudley, as a Journeyman Baker, with wife Charlotte, b abt1831 Bidford, Warks.
Charlotte appears to have died 1873 - FreeBMD has her in June Qtr 1873 aged 44 (Ref 6c 78)
