Novice question

Hi.
I'm very new to this and the answer to my question is probably blindingly obvious to those more experienced but help would be appreciated.
I am trying to track down an old school friend. I know her name, date of birth and where she lived (roughly) in the mid 60s. It's more than likely she's married and so her surname has almost certainly changed. How on earth do I try to find her?
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi
This site is more into finding ancestors than old school friends
You could try
http://www.192.com/people/ as a starting point or perhaps register with friendsreunited where you can put in your name and the school you attended etc - you may not find your friend but perhaps manage to contact someone else who may have information.
Perhaps someone else will have a better idea.

This is a bit 'hit and miss' and it depends how unusual your friend's maiden name was.... but we managed to find an old friend of my Mum's ( who she hadn't seen since the 60s)
We did a search of possible marriages with the friends name around the date we thought it might be, in the area we thought it might be. In our case this threw up a good possible for her new surname.
My mum got out the phone book and started phoning round, but this was unsuccessful.... we thought the friend was maybe x-directory?
My Mum then used some sort of online site to get an address from the electoral roll ( sorry not sure what this was... anyone know?)..this just gave an address, no phone number...she wrote a letter to the address that came up and... 'bingo' it was the right one!
They have since met up several times and seem to have 'picked up where they left off' with their friendship.

Just though I would add that we have traced a few other friends by .... 'googling' their name on the internet....and also through facebook.. we found one who was listed amongst the friends list of another friend.
People sometimes crop up related to a particular hobby/sport/other interest....articles might appear on the internet.
Hope you have success in your search

There's always
Friends Reunited. You might find her marriage on
FreeBMD.
I managed to get in touch with someone by setting up
my own webpage with everything I remembered about her, photos etc. on it. Most of us google our own names in moments of idleness and, about five years after I set up the page, low and behold I got an email from her. I did a similar thing regarding
my father and have had one or two people contact me about him.

Thanks so much for helpful responses.
I have tried all the obvious thing like Friends Reunited etc and drawn a blank but there are some good ideas here which I'll now explore. Again, thanks for all your help. Happy hunting.
