I have just been in contact with someone in America who believes they are descended from this Joseph Tibbetts, and there are entries on Ancestry which suggest that her Joseph is the son of Samuel and Elizabeth (nee Westwood), that he married Mary Roth in the USA in 1878 and died there in 1919. However, my previous research suggested that this Joseph married Harriet Cutler in 1871 and continued to live in the Black Country.
On bcc http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/fa ... tts-Family there is reference to this marriage. Has the look-up been done? This would help to remove some of the doubt if Samuel is indeed his father.
I can find no UK references to a Harry Joseph Tibbetts born in 1851 in the BC.

The marriage details for Joseph and Harriet may also resolve the two Harriet Cutlers on Bcc into the same person.

There only seems to be the one Harriet Cutler of the right age on the 1861 Census:-

Old Hill Rowley Regis

WILLIAM CUTLER Head Married 32 yrs
MARY CUTLER Wife Married 31 yrs
WILLIAM CUTLER Son 6 yrs
THOMAS CUTLER Son 4 yrs
HARRIETT CUTLER Daughter 9 yrs

Elizabeth Westwood is in my direct line.

Linell.

In 1871 Joseph is with his parents in Reddall Hill, and in 1881 is with Harriet in Reddall Hill. He is a chainmaker on both.

As far as Bcc is concerned, yes, archive, but I now have to try to unravel the reasons for the incorrect 'kidnapping' of Joseph by our American cousins...
