Taking the kids back home, driving up Langley Green Road on to Causeway Green, Elisabeth, aged 10 and an avid book reader asked that one of the weekends, could we please go and have a look around that shop that sold Book Markers.

I had to try and explain to her what a Book Maker's was and she spent the rest of the journey saying what a shame - she had spent the last couple of years looking at that shop and imagining shelves full of brightly coloured book markers.

Ahhh .....

You had me lost with Book Markers....but I get it when you say Book Makers.

Kids are always a source of amusement and unexpected wisdom if adults only spent the effort to listen.

Wouldn't that be wonderful; a shop on every corner that sold book markers rather than shops that take people's hard earned cash, with much promises of vast riches to come, but which, in reality, just shovel the vast majority of it into the pockets of the already wealthy.

I can remember being distressed when, having followed the instructions in the book perfectly, my carefully folded and snipped piece of paper opened up to become a doily not a dolly. :(
