Note by NL topic split can we keep this for Rock family pls


When I was in my teens my parents had some good friends, caretakers of Eliza Tinsley"™s chain works in Reddal Hill Road, Cradley Heath,
Sydney and Edith Woodall.

Seeing the Woodall thread here, I though I"™d find out more about them. I believe they were Sydney W Woodall and Edith L Rock who married at St Luke"™s, Cradley Heath in 1930.

Looking further back, I think Edith Rock"™s parents were Horace J Rock b. 1888 Rowley and Beatrice M Homer b. 1889 Rowley who married at St Luke"™s in 1911, Edith was born the following year.

Horace"™s parents were Samuel Rock b. about 1858 Rowley Regis and Charlotte Moseley b. about 1859 married in about 1881.

Samuel"™s father was James Rock b. about 1809 Rowley Regis c. 1809 and his mother Sarah [unknown] b. about 1811 Rowley Regis.

James and Sarah Rock are already on BCC, but I"™ve not been able to trace Sydney (or Sidney) back to any of the Woodalls we have.

Many thanks, NL, yes by all means split it. There's an Edith M Rock born in 1912, but the marriage record of 1930 says Edith L Rock. On the 1882 marriage I only have the bare record of the names and year. My impression was that Sid and Edith were of a similar age. Sid had the most wonderful genuine Black Country accent, very different from Brummie.

I think it's Horace James Rock, so born Oct 1886 Dudley.

Are we sure about Horace J Rock's parents? Cos there's another Horace J Rock born about right time and place in the 1891 & 1901 census with parents John & Elizabeth and Samuel's son is not recorded as Horace J

Gosh, I've just woken up to find all of this! Many thanks! Yes, Sydney and Edith are long dead, I'm afraid, a lovely couple, probably around the early 1970s. They had an adopted daughter.
