Hi, I have been searching for almost 3 years for Mary McKenna and herbert evans marriage record, to no avail!
Mary Mckenna was born in glasneivin rd, dublin in 1873( information i found in 1911 census)
her husband was Herbert evans born 1875 in newcastle under lyne, and in the 1911 census both lived in 10 chatham row, portsea, hampshire.
we have correct couple as alice grace ( daughter)is my grandmother in law and herbert samuel ( son) is her brother!
It states they had been married 8 years at time of census but where? and where is the record? its driving me crazy!
Please could anyone help with any ideas where else to look or is able to find any record, i would be forever grateful
Many thanks
Tracy

The 1911 says he was in the Royal Marine Light Infantry
Is that him in Malta in the 1901 census?
Could this be his record?
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/docu ... ultcount=5If Mary was born in Ireland then they may not have married in England. Do you have her in the 1901 census?

Hi Jimmy
Yes thats them, i know herbert lied about his age when he first joined the navy, this could be why there is a diffrence in birth dates! 1911 census is correct one as i know they lived in chatham row in portsea! and Alice Grace louisa was my grandmother in law, and her brother was herbert!
Thank you for responding, gives me hope i might find their marriage or some information on Mary Mckenna's family!

Hi Tracy
Where do you have Mary's surname from? Is that from a birth certificate or family knowledge?

I think the only thing to do is cough up the money for this and see if it gives any information.
Name Evans, Herbert
Register Number: 8323
Division: Royal Marine Light Infantry: Portsmouth Division
When Enlisted/Date of Enlistment: 20 December 1895
Date 08 February 1878
It looks like a good match to your man doesn't it?
1911 Herbert Evans aged 36 The Royal Marine Light Infantry
1901 Herbert Evans aged 23 Crew on Ramilles at Malta
1891 Herbert Evans aged 12
1881 Herbert Evans aged 2
always born Newcastle (Under Lyme)
The record says (I assume this is meant as birth date) 8 Feb 1878
There isn't a birth to fit that but there is
Births Mar 1879
Evans Herbert Newcastle L. 6b 72
so the record could have the right month and date but wrong year.
I can't see Mary anywhere at all pre-1911. There is a possible Alice Mary McKenna but she isn't born Ireland, and is married to another man in 1901.
The Irish 1901 census is here
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ but the only McKennas on Glasnevin are a nun I think and a school girl called Annie.
Sorry I can't help more
