I have a distant connection to this family, I think, Mumbles, via Clara A York(e) b. 4 Jan 1874 Langley, Oldbury, Worcestershire d. 1957? who married Job Albert Armstrong b. 17 July 1871 Oldbury, Worcestershire on 20 Nov 1895 Stourbridge. Job Albert's sister Sara Ann Armstrong b. Oldbury c. 1875 married my great uncle Francis Xavier Wood 17 Dec 1870 Perrott Street, Oldbury, d. c. 1930 Oldbury (son of William Wood 1832-1898 and Matilda Wright 1845-Aft. 02 Apr 1911) on 4 Nov 1897 at St Francis Xavier R C church, Oldbury. They had at least 6 children in Oldbury, Bernard 10 Sep 1898-c. 1991; Agnes 10 Nov 1900; Martha 31 Dec 1902; Henry 1904; and Albert 16 May 1906. Agnes and Martha never married and looked after the Big House, the 18th c. house in Oldbury, as caretakers in the 1920s or 1930s.

Still working on this Nl and Cliftons are interesting as they were Boatmen and were all over the country
and many died very young in their 30's ( Occupational Hazard)
Some settled in Northampton and left £450 and £1000 in wills so must have been well paid occupation

Northamptonshire was a big canal hub for the whole country, mumbles, there's a canal museum on the Grand Union at Stoke Bruerne. I have quite a few family connections from Northamptonshire with Oldbury - boat building, bargees etc. - which was also a big canal place with its own loop through the centre of the town, as well as the 'main line'.
