Well, I can beat that! We got married in October 1974, and my birthday is the 18th February. Because we were so poor, we decided not to buy Valentines cards 4 days before my birthday, but I kept the card Ian sent me the year we were courting, 1974. And it has come out every year since then. It is sitting on my mantelpiece now. How romantic is that!
That's the 38th year, by the way!

Me! Together with one I made for him, because I lost the original one I sent him! But he usually buys me a box of heart-shaped choccies these days!

We have a tradition that might sound a bit morbid but not to us. We always keep our Christmas cards and bring them out the following year for writing our Christmas cards, rather than having a list and if you didn't send us one last year, you won't be getting on this year .

Almost 20 years ago, we got out the cards as usual and had a sad moment when I came to my Auntie Dorothy's card, she had died in the April of that year. I thought, why should I throw this away, I'll keep it and we can put it out with this year's cards. We did that and since then many other cards have been added to our collection of 'Last Cards' from much loved and missed relatives. They go on a separate shelf from the new cards and are a happy reminder of those beautiful people, who are no longer with us.

A nice idea Lu but that other one where if they haven't sent you one last year you don't send them one this year!!
A bit mercenary(is that the word?).You never give any one a second chance? There may be a good reason why thay didn't send you one. Can people get back on your christmas card list once they're off or are they doomed forever to exist without your seasons greetings?
Can i be your friend on Facebook?

I'd have to unblock you first. Are you sure you want that?

I rarely give anyone a second chance. Only to very special people. I used to send my cousin a card every year, even though she stopped sending cards years ago. This last Christmas, I really thought she might start sending out cards again, as her Husband became the new CEO of Clinton Cards but sure enough, no cards as usual. She's not doing a lot to help the company's £10 Million deficit, is she.

My sister in law said in 2010 that she didn't to the people she was with on Christmas day, last year she stopped sending all together. My other sister in law never sends, but both of them get one from us.

I like Christmas Cards, we exchange cards with friends and family who aren't local to the area any more and we probably haven't seen each other in years. It's an old fashioned tradition, I'd rather do that and go back to the Victorian idea of just a small personal present. Hate this expectation these days, particularly from the children, of dozens of expensive electrical goods.

Going back to the Valentine's Card theme. Surely it is the thought the counts, not what you can stretch your bank balance to?
