ARC TBC - Frederick Taylor Brassington & son Robert

For the past two years I have been searching for information on my great grandfather Frederick Taylor Brassington and his younger son Robert.
Frederick was baptised 29th Jan 1827 at Stoke on Trent. His father was Thomas Brassington, born 1800 in Stoke on Trent and Margaret Brassington, nee Taylor, born 1802 in Lichfield. Another child of Thomas and Margaret was William Brassington born 1827. The 1881 Census shows William and wife Jane living at 7 Penkull Terrace, Stoke on Trent with children Elizabeth 21yrs, Agnes 20yrs, William 18yrs, Annie 17yrs and Jane 11yrs. Also listed is Margaret Brassington, widow aged 78 yrs.
Frederick married Caroline Hand of Barlaston Sept 1859. They had three surviving children, Harry born 1859 at Wolstanton, Gertude Marie, baptised Jan 1874 at St Peters Church, Wolverhampton and Robert born 1867 at Wolverhampton.
The 1881 Census shows the family living at 79 Peach Street; Liverpool. Sometime after this there would appear to have been a separation. Caroline and Gertrude Marie, ( my grandmother) moved to the Isle of Man. Caroline died there on the 21st May 1898 aged 54. Her status is given as Widow. Gertrude Marie worked as a domestic servant on the island until her marriage in 1901.
Harry Brassington seems to have stayed in Liverpool. On the 2nd Nov. 1884 he married Emma Jones in Liverpool but then moved to Chorlton on Medlock, Manchester, ( 1901 & 1911 Census)
I can find no record anywhere of what happened to Frederick and Robert after 1881 and am leaning towards them having emigrated. If so, I am hoping they kept in touch with other family members who might be able to join up the dots. Frederick was a Boot maker and seems to have had some bad luck financially according to the bankruptcies recorded in the London and the Edinburgh Gazettes.
If anybody has any information or suggestions I would be grateful. Thank-you
