I have a similar Bible for our Wood family, NL, so lucky that it didn't disappear in house clearances etc. It's more battered that the one in the Bugle, has lost its spine and clasp and has burns and candle fat on the cover - local colour! The family members each wrote their entry at the beginning, parents and children. Interestingly the entries don't always correspond to what's on the certificates, dates and places. I have an Edwardian postcard album as well with family messages which also miraculously escaped the great shipwreck of history....

Marvellous snapshots of actual family history aren't they I don't have anything like that.
To be treasured I think.

Here is the marriage now it is a registry office so wonder if the blessing was in the chapel and then onto the regis office for the official bit.
How did it work
I thought as long as the place was licensed for ceremony and the guy from the registry office was there it was ok.
So should say the name of Providence Chapel but it doesnt

The Grove Family are a very old Rowley Family and have numerous mentions in background information of introduction to Rowley Parish Register records.Earliest is Mary Grove gentlewoman buried 1650 and Grove family are noted as gentry for several generations. Vicar of Rowley Mr. William Turton married a Margery Grove in 1659 ( she is noted as daughter of Mrs. Russell of Rowley). In 1663 Mr. Thomas Grove was one of three gentlemen summoned by the Heralds who disclaimed right to bear arms and his name is also listed on Poll Tax Roll in 1663 and a John Grove Solicitor at Law is also listed.
In 1692 Mr. Samuel Lee married Mrs. Catherine Grove
In 1703 Francis Eld esq. married Mary Grove and in 1710 Rev.Thomas Saunders married Frances Grove
In 1707 Mr John Grove ,Lawyer and his wife Barbara were living at Rowley
In Rowley Regis a History by Edward Chitham :-
in 1539 Henry V111 had a survey of undertaken to determine which inhabitants would declare arms they had in preparation for possible war with Spain. Fifteen men of Rowley claimed to have weapons stored at home including John Grove
In 18th Century it is noted that at Rowley Hall the Grove Family owned silver plate and Mr. John Grove would put on his riding habit and best pair of boots and then go hunting across the hills with his pack of hounds.

Yes we have the marriage Pete - didnt have her name as Lydia so nice one!

But who are they!
that name Foulkes/Folkes etc
she must connect to Caroline or maybe not I dont think that is the samuel mentioned it just seemed odd the connection

That Annie is I think a dau of Samuel Sturman b 1854 dies 1916 and is mentioned in the bible
so I will put him on.
I think they are living near taylors on an early census with wife Hannah Maria?

Ok can we sort of wade thru the detail on that article and pick out those mentioned.... :?

So we dont get too confused as we pick em out open up a new thread for that name...so Samuel sturman b 1854 is being opened please run with that name on there ta

In the meantime if anyone can find out who this Lucy Lydia Foulkes is and Samuel Sturman she marries
:?
