St Joseph or St John, Tipton?

On BMSGH there's a marriage taking place at St John, Tipton in 1913. I've actually got a copy of the original marriage certificate, which states "Marriage solemnized at S. Joseph's Church in the Parish of S. John's Tipton........" So is it St Joseph or St John?

I've had a look on the Sandwell Archives web site, but it appears they have taken off their Parish Register Handlist - or am I not looking in the right place?

Any help appreciated.

For as long as I've used Sandwell Archives, I have never heard of a St Joseph's Church in Tipton. I have a copy of their Parish Register Holdings, and it's not shown on there.

Thanks NL and Maggie.

Strange that it states at the top of the certificate... S. Joseph's Church ... Parish of S. John's Tipton. On the bottom it states the same then underneath the Vicar's name Designation: Vicar of S. John's.

Just to let everyone know.

Having emailed Sandwell Archives re St Joseph Church, Tipton I have received this very informative reply.

"Thank you for your enquiry. Between 1913-1921 St John's church was closed because of damage due to mining. During closure St Joseph's church, Newhall Street, Prince's End, was used but marriages were still entered in St John's registers".
