Killer heat.

Just read an article that says we could lose up to 1000 people a week in upcoming heat waves.

During Black Saturday 173 people in my home state of Victoria were killed by bushfires and we thought that was a disaster.

That same week, nearly 400 died from the heat wave!!!!

They want to introduce smart power grids that will shut down non essential applicances and leave the airconditioning running.

What happens at the moment is it gets too hot so people stay at home and turn on the air conditioner plus their TV's etc and we get power blackouts.

Sounds pretty scary to me....

It does sound scary Mark and also hard for us to imagine here in England. The hottest I've been is Kefalonia, in August. Both times there we had a week of 40 C but there is this constant breeze, which makes it quite bearable.

Trouble was, the were also fires both times, the second time we went, the fire was on the hill, right behind where we were staying. We watched the planes dropping water onto the flames. We came very close to running down the hill to the sea at one point. That was just a holiday, something we could leave behind, I can't imagine what it's like to have that at home, where you don't have the reassurance of getting away from it at the end of the week and going back to normality and safety.

I hope you don't get it as bad as they are predicting.
