Have done a look up and got a James Priest as father - chainmaker

- Who did James marry think it may have been a Mary or Martha not sure..
-are they the same James's

Thanks Jimmy... think they are bit early...and I have no idea where I got the name martha and mary from..while ago now....

so yes we need Alfred on census with parents please and we can work back...

1861 Census as a James Priest and Martha, with son Alfred and daughter Phebe, plus 5 other children living in Rowley Regis.

On the 1861 census James is born about 1824.
