The only info. I have for this chap ( who was my Dad's uncle) is that he was called David, had a wife "Flossie" and a son David and that he died in 1968.... so not much to go on I'm afraid

I assumed that " Flossie" would be short for Florence?... but then I don't know?.. could it be another name?

On my grandmother's wedding certificate of 1937( she is the "Annie" in the 1911 census below)
the witnesses are a David and Florence Taylor

The David I am looking for is in this 1911 census... David's father would have been William, though I'm still not having much success on finding William before his marriage in 1900( archives advised me that a Quinton birth in 1878 would be listed as 'Stourbridge'... but there are still way too many William Taylors to pin down a birth cert. )

Here is the 1911 census where David as a 6 year old

Oldbury Road, Blackheath, Birmingham
William TAYLOR(32) labourer born in Quinton,
wife Hannah (30) born Blackheath..married 10 years,
sons William(9)born Langley,
David(6) born Blackheath,
daughter Annie(1) born Whiteheath

I am wondering whether it is possible that the father...William Taylor was known by some other name... maybe even David Taylor?... which might explain why I can't find him before 1900. This family had an annoying habit of using middle names instead of first names... which makes it awkward! As an example ... the real name of Annie (above) was Ruth Lydia Mercy Hannah Taylor... so Annie was't even one of her names!

These Taylors are very difficult
I'm just getting confused again whenever I look at them

I do have another marriage I could check to see father's name
David had a brother Charles married to Constance Plant.... so maybe I should send off for that marriage certificate?

I think it is that one Ruths wits are David Howard Taylor

maybe a recheck on name for father

I'm still wondering whether this is just a case of people having different names amongst their own family.... the father William being known as David perhaps?

Re. William ... I was looking at the Admissions Register for Quinton National School

Date of birth fits with marriage for my William, though a little bit out with 1911 census?

Still haven't found him before 1900
Wondering if there might be a marriage for a Joseph Taylor and Elizabeth?

Haven't been able to find an Elizabeth Taylor in Quinton for 1871 or 1881 with husband Joseph and son William.

Not even sure whether I can see the Elizabeth Taylor from that Quinton School register either ... she is listed as parent or guardian in 1883, so I suppose she could be grandmother/ aunt/ cousin/ sister... anything really?
My main problem is defining what area counts as Quinton. I think Ridgacre is Quinton .. and what about "Hill"?

Will come back to this in a bit.... breakfast time here and kids to get off to school!

So, I now have the birth certificate and it does list his father as William not David

73 Hackett St, Blackheath, Staffordshire, England David Howard Taylor ... son of William Taylor ( stonebreaker) and Hannah Taylor ( formerly Hewitt) ... at 73 Hackett Street, Blackheath. Date of birth 16 Jul 1904... date birth registered 23 Aug 1904

I had hoped this might also help me to find the parents.... William and Hannah on the 1901 census .... but there appear to be different people living at 73 , Hackett St. in 1901. Only family connection I can find with Hackett St in 1901 is....Hannah's parents ... William and Lenna Hackett are living at 45 Hackett St. in 1901

Maybe William Taylor's occupation might be a clue?

In 1911... he is labourer at chemical works

and on this birth certificate for David Howard he is a stonebreaker.

David Howard's brother William was born in Langley around 1902 according to the 1911 census.

Am now getting to the point of thinking I will have to plough through every page of the census in 1901 to find them as they never seem to come up on searches
My only other option seems to be to order loads of birth certificates, as these names are so common!

Can anyone tell me which Civil parish & Enumeration district I would need to search through on the 1901 census to cover addresses that would qualify as Langley? ( I am assuming this is Worcestershire , though I find this area is so confusing)

Any help greatly appreciated!
