Newcastle upon Tyne have a photostream on Flickr, some great material for the area. Found one of the places my family lived in under construction in 1926.

Beamish has proberly one of the best collection of photos on the north east

You can try to search for Elswick, I have some of my tree there, but mainly I'm in Byker. My one criticism of it is there is no straightforward search function and the pictures have not been carefully titled so its easy to see what is what. I'm half way through simply looking at each page in turn!
