I am not having much success finding what happened to this chap after 1881

I have his birth certficate .....11 May 1863 ....Franchise Street, Wolverhampton...
birth of Joseph Henry Greaves... son of James Greaves ( tin plate worker...journeyman) and Ann Maria Greaves ( formerly Hipkiss)

1871 census
51 Pope St, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England
Joseph HIPKISS(49) is a toolmaker born in B'ham,
wife Frances(52)born Harborne
and grandson Joseph H GREAVES (7)born Wolverhampton.. ( I believe this is son of James and Ann Maria GREAVES as these match with Ann Maria's parents)

and I think this is him in 1881.....Joseph is a boarder at a house in Warstone Lane... living 2 doors away from his mother Ann Maria and her new husband William Peters
1881 census
7 7 Court Warstone Lane, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England
Albert COSTIN(22) jeweler,
wife Hester(21)
and son Henry W (1)
... Joseph H GREAVES (17) boarder..tin plate stamper..

I still have been unable to get to the bottom of what happened to his father James ( who apparently died or disappeared somewhere around 1878) and now I am stuck on Joseph.

Can anyone help :?:
Many Thanks
Expat :P

Thankyou so much Mark!
How exciting.... a whole load more relatives to research!

That 1891 census you found has to be right ... address makes sense and the Mary Peters in the household would be his step sister

I'm not sure about the 1911 census that you found though?
This gets a bit confusing ( and I am already confused :? )... but it looks as though there is another household where the parents are Joseph and Elizabeth Greaves...

Found this one in 1891 in Leicester .... I think this may be the same family as in that 1911 census ( ages seem to match a bit better?)
Joseph H Greaves Head Male 32 abt 1859..iron caster.. Birmingham Warwickshire England
Elizabeth Greaves Wife Female 31 abt 1860 Stourbridge
Elsie E Greaves Daughter Female 7 abt 1884 Birmingham Warwickshire England
Florence E Greaves Daughter Female 5 abt 1886 Birmingham Warwickshire

I am wondering whether my Joseph and family headed up north?
I found this family in Halifax in 1901
1901 census Halifax ( can't make out the street name?)
Halifax address.jpg
Halifax address.jpg (4.16 KiB) Viewed 1224 times

Joseph Greaves Head 37 abt 1864 Male .. iron caster..Birmingham Warwickshire England
Elizabeth Greaves Wife 37 abt 1864 Female Birmingham Warwickshire England
Florie Greaves Daughter 15 abt 1886 Female Birmingham Warwickshire England
Bertha Greaves Daughter 14 abt 1887 Female Birmingham Warwickshire England
Ernest Greaves Son 10 abt 1891 Male Birmingham Warwickshire England
Joseph Greaves Son 6 abt 1895 Male Birmingham Warwickshire England
Dorris Greaves Daughter 3 abt 1898 Female Birmingham Warwickshire England
Samuel Moseley Boarder 35 abt 1866 Male Birmingham Warwickshire England

Bit confused by that place of birth for Joseph ... but wife's name and first 3 kids seem to tie up
or am I looking at that other family again?

Could do with finding the 1911 census for that lot in Halifax, I supppose :?:

Oh dear... am getting mixed up
Need to go through this again

Just spoke to my Mum and when I mentioned Halifax that jolted her memory.... she reckons that my Nan used to get letters from an 'Aunt' Dorris in Halifax ( a lady who is supposed to have lived to a very great age apparently)
... so I am optimistic that this Halifax lot are the right ones.... just need to see if they are still there in 1911...

OK... they are the Halifax lot.... just found them in 1911 in Stannery St. Halifax
The Birmingham ones are interesting though.... must be related somewhere along the line?
