Thanks cid, that's the one I was after although if there is a 1901 for that particular Mary Ann Hillman I'd like to know.

I would have thought Mary Ann would be married by the 1901 census?

I expect so, but there are so many Mary Hillman marriages that I thought it would be easier to try to find her on census as a single woman first. And those Hillman women could be a promiscuous lot; I've been going through the parish baptism records held by the Sussex Family History Group and have come across several 'baseborn' and 'illegitimate' comments, including one woman who had at least three children out of wedlock, all entered with no father's name but whose middle name is quite obviously a surname (and different ones at that)

and another where the priest's note was "This is the third b*****d this woman has had" but without the asterisks.

Looks like this one's done with. It can be archived.
