Hi

Samuel T (? Thomas) Nicklin born abt 1904 appears in the will of

Thomas Nicklin born 1856

My brick wall is that I cant find hin in the 1911 census or any where else he just seems to appear from nowhere

This also happened with Calib nicklin until I realised that Joshua calib had called himself Calib ( his middle name)

However this does not work with samuel T Nicklin. In Thomas's will Samuel is reffered to as his grandson.

Also I found the marriage of Samuel - he married Ellen Hay December 28 1930 at holy trinity Church Staffordshire

I could not find any children of the marriage they seem to dissapear

Any info would be gratefully received

Is this them in earlier census? Have you found any at all in 1911?

Maybe Samuel was staying with friends or relatives that night, and they didn't include him on the census, or he was mistakenly recorded with their surname.

Are you sure Samuel and his wife had children - there are no children recorded on the GRO for the names Nicklin and Hay (unless the names were mistranscribed)

Yes this is the family however I cant find Samuel anywhere in any of the census - I do have the 1911 census and info on all census's
he was definatly the grandson of Thomas and harriet as he is mentioned as such in their will.

yes this is the correct family I think Sarah Died as in the 1911 the family was stated as 5 children 1 Died (the boys all survived) This is what I cant get my head around. Where Samuel appeared from as I cant seem to tie him in. I thought a birth would give who he belonged to from the four boys.

He may be the son of Joshua Calib, Joseph, or Thomas. (definatly not John)

Thank you all I think I will need to ask for a look up of the birth.

But before I do that and I ask for this to be archived I wonder if as Samuel and Ellen did not have any children and Samuel lived to a good age is there a possibility that samuel may have married again. ? did ellen die young - hope that makes sense.

If you don't have access to Ancestry or Find My Past - births around 1905 are indexed on Free BMD here : http://freebmd.org.uk and West Midlands BMD here : http://www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk/

West Midlands BMD is the local index and is more accurate than the national GRO on FreeBMD.

Dudley births are indexed up to 2005 here - but if Samuel was born outside of Dudley proper, ie Rowley Regis, Tipton etc, these births will still be registered in Dudley on the National Index - but Rowley Regis or Tipton etc on the local Index, which won't show after 1900. These are now Sandwell Registers and Sandwell local births are only indexed up to 1900.

Births can't be looked up
you would need to contact the regis office and purchase a certificate

Probably Holy Trinity Old Hill.

Pauline, if you think that is your Samuel, you can find out from the Marriage Entry who his father was.
