the numbers you queried are useful in that for eg this one
DEY * Martha HAWLEY Thomas 1849 Dudley, St Thomas West Midlands Dudley Register Office 204/009/426

if you ever go to Dudley register office you can get the St Thomas Register out and find year 1849
then the last number 426 is the actual entry number in the register so you can go straight to it.
The numbers before are for the actual registry office to find the certif
The GRO use different refs as you know vol and page no.
