Just tried again and they have this message posted on page,

The e-petitions site is having problems at the moment. We need to temporarily suspend the creation and signing of e-petitions to allow us to make sure everything is working properly for you.We aim to re-open the e-petitions site by Friday morning (12th August).

We're very sorry for the inconvenience this causes you.

The e-petition entitled "Convicted London rioters should loose all benefits" has now passed the threshold of 100,000 signatures and has been passed to the Backbench Business Committee to consider for debate. It will continue to be available for signature once the site is re-opened.
So I will try again tomorrow.

I don't think so, most of them (750 yesterday) are either on remand or going through the Court System, some Courts have been operating through the night, other criminals are in hiding, waiting for the Police to come knocking.

But they have been identified, in the main from CCTV footage, they were on the streets committing their crimes before the rain came. I don't agree with this Policing after the event. What they should be doing is stopping these crimes, not arresting people the day after they commit offences.

Agree Lulu but the amount of trouble that was going on there just isnt enough Police to stop and arrest at the time.
Next best thing is to arrest them as soon as possible afterwards.

I find it shocking and my kids and their friends who come here find it shocking too. Sad and I feel so sorry for all the innocent people involved. They just have respect.

I think you will find it is now working. Number of signatures: 106,613.

I just got on ok.

Only thing is it says for London and it should be all areas!

They've been reporting on the sentences given out, especially those where the convicted person doesn't think he's commited a crime. In the one case he hadn't knicked anything, but was found in a department store and admitted intent to steal. The other case was two lads who'd incited to riot in Warrington and Northwich through facebook, but it luckily hadn't amounted to anything.

As far as I'm concerned these people are just as guilty as if the theft/riot had actually happened. They're right to throw the book at them!
