Hope

While Maggie is swimming she suggested I try to help you to use Family Search which is another free site.

It was set up by the "Mormons" as part of their beliefs but is free for anyone to use and does not try to convert you.

It has lots of Baptisms and marriages and also the 1881 census (this census is the only one that is available completely free)

So here goes

You can try Google -- like you did yesterday with "Family Search" but it might take you to a new site -- if it does find a link to Previous site-- alternatively use this link
http://www.familysearch.org/eng

Let us try to find Daniel Lane b 1873 -- enter his name , ignore "Life Event" -- enter 1873 and put age range of 2 years and country England -- see if you get any results ---

Can you see him ? Click on his name if you do and it will give you the info about him off the 1881 census -- go to right of his name where it says household and it will give you the transcript of the people who were living with him in 1881 -- compare this with the 1891 you got from Maggie -- does it seem to be the right family and what else does it tell you?

Sorry MG - I was typing this up at the same time as you. Try Maths Girls way first Hope.

I have looked at the 1881 Census where Enoch and Eliza have a daughter Rebecca, born around 1868 - so they probably married before this time.

Enoch was born around 1845 - so could have been married any time after about 1863, when he would have been 18.

You can find the family yourself on the 1881 Census - it is free on Family Search - here : http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/ ... search.asp

On the front page you will see the third option down the page says Census

Click on this and from the first drop down list choose 1881 British Census

In the first name enter Enoch and in the surname enter Lane

Birth Place Country is England

Birth Year is 1845 - Birth Year Range is 5 years

Census Country is England

Census County is Worcester

And enter

You should now see Enoch living at 20 Titford Road

Over on the right click on the Household button and you will see all the family

You can type this up the same as I typed up the 1891 Census.

Then have another look for Enoch and Eliza's marriage before 1868.

And ................ breathe ...................

Maggie - I will be out now for a couple of hours - but you have enough homework until I get back
There's no place like home ......

Have you found the whole family on the 1881 Census Hope ? You need to be looking for a Census, not the Pedigree. Can you post here what you have.

My advice to both you and Susietwo is that when things start happening with a computer for no apparent reason is to shut it down and then start it again -- hopefully then it realises you are cross with it and starts to behave! --or perhaps when I do it it just gives me the time to calm down -take a deep breath and start again slowly.

Either way I hope it works for you
