She replaced it with an Austin A40 which I never liked as much.
It was black and was known as 'The Little Old Lady', and that's me at the back - pushing. I can remember having to get out at the top of hills when she boiled over and wait for her to cool down. The front passenger seat was hinged at the front to allow access to the back seats but there was no clip to hold it, what with no seat belts as well there was always a distinct danger of banging one's face on the windscreen under heavy braking. Also the 'semaphore' style indicators worked by electro-magnet which drained the battery if used too often. We went on to a MG1100 - sheer luxury comparatively.
My dad had a dark blue Ford Pop with hinged seats at the front. One day coming back up the Oakham Road from Dudley, on a particularly bad bend, someone came out of a road and dad had to slam on the anchors. I was sitting behind mom, her seat flew up and she hit her head on the windscreen, luckily not too much damage, but when her seat came back down it landed on my foot and broke two of my toes. The bloke who did it drove off pretty sharpish, lucky for him - dad was well known for his Welsh temper. Another day in the winter when we were driving up Regent Road (really steep) it had been snowing and dad made us kids in the back bounce on the seat to get us going. Not sure how this worked but it did.
Storm over Denmark tonight! They're forecasting winds of between 100 and 120kmh! And the silly weather presenter was standing on the docks in Esbjerg, getting soaked and pushed around by the winds! Wind speed isn't up to max yet, but it was still pretty daft!

Does make you wonder when the police say not to make unneccesary journeys, what they think they're doing! Luckily only one tree seems to have been blown over in our garden, but other places have been harder hit. It was still nothing compared to the hurricane we had december 1999, people still remember what they were doing that night! My local town looked as though it was in a war zone, they were roofs that were blown off, and walls/buildings that collapsed. And for months afterwards the woodland around the whole country had loads of trees that had been blown over.

They've just said on the news that it was the worst storm for six years! At least we don't get that many of them. Luckily it coincided with low water, as it would have meant a lot of flooding!
