Joseph Beard married Charolotte Nelms in 1845, than am assuming she died & he marries Mary, in 1865, whose maiden name is Ball, but has previously been married to a Thomas Sidaway; hence the children with surname Sidaway living with a Beard?

It could be she remarried while she was carrying son John,

I do wonder if that the Jane you were looking for may be that one with mother Jane greenfield
