Just put on my thinking cap and come to the conclusion the info I got from the Islington Museum was'nt quite right and Richard Bush/Leigh Driver's opinions are more spot on.

Reason?
1881 census: Both Axel and Christian were in Compton Buildings. The 1881 census does state it's in the Holborn borough (same as Leigh Driver's folks).
From the 1881 census onwards Axel crossed over to south of the river.
Meanwhile Christian stayed in the same area (1901 census: Upper St, 1911 census Rosebery Ave - where he also died in 1913).
In the London A-Z map Compton Strret is still listed with Compton Passage running off it. And, believe it or not, it's only about 20 mins walk from where I currently live! So, will trot over there on Monday sometime and look around.

I've no idea where the museum people got their Bingham Street (off Balls Pond Road - a different area) info from but will tackle them shortly......

Can I claim travelling expenses from GF UK?
