Re: Marriage of David Harris and Sarah Smith C b1845
Thing is, I can't seem to find anything on David and Sarah Bloomer other than a private tree, which is litlte or no info. When I contacted them I mentioned that the David I was looking for was the son of Joseph and May Harris and it seems that they have added Jospeh as David's father, but there are no details at all on Jospeh and all they have on David is his year of birth. I would have thought that if he married into their family, that they would have a bit more info than that.
This is so totally confusing.

Re: Marriage of David Harris and Sarah Smith C b1845
There is something strange about the dates for Sarah Bloomer:
Marriage was 1865 when David was 30 and Sarah 19?
Or 1862 when she was 16?
Marriages Mar 1865
Barker Mary Kidderminster 6c 271
Bloomer Sarah Kidderminster 6c 271
Fraser James Kidderminster 6c 271
Harris David Kidderminster 6c 271
From Linell:
“the Cradley Vicar's Notebook have a David and Sarah Harris living with John and Eliza Bloomer Colley Lane Cradley 1863/64, David and Sarah Harris have a one year old son Joseph."
How can this be when they married in 1865?
Nutsy found from private tree, Ancestry:
“1862
Age: 16 Marriage to david harris
1863
Age: 17 Description
Colley Lane
Description: A Mirror to the Flock: married to david harris, living with her parents"
This latter fits with the Vicar's Notebook entry but not with the marriage in Kidderminster.

Nutsy I have added that look up to the list.
Think we need to wait now until we know if it is Bloomer or Smith based on info back from that look up
or we are just going around the houses

Re: Marriage of David Harris and Sarah Smith C b1845
Ok Have done the look up it does look as though it must be the bloomer marriage
but the only way to be really really sure would be to purchase the Bloomer certif as it is not at the churches that we know of or rather the info to guide us to which church is absent.
So on this Harris and Smith one I looked up ..
David Harris is full age...so must be over 21
He is a chainmaker ( as is the one with dau annie m harris on 1871)
His father is a Blacksmith not a labourer ( again kinda tallies with that lot on 1871- cos unfortunately this guy is Joseph too!)
so I think it aint your one...but here...you decide..
24 April 1864 St Thomas Dudley
-David Harris- full- bach- chainmaker- Dudley- Joseph Harris- Blacksmith
-Sarah Smith- full- spinster- Dudley- Timothy Smith dead- miner
banns
David signed X Sarah
Wit- X Emma Percival
and X David Calloway

be useful to see on prev census if the father of the david with dau annie m ie the b 1835 one, if that father joseph is a blacksmith
that would help

Re: Marriage of David Harris and Sarah Smith C b1845
Thanks so much for that NL... Emma Percival rings a bell though.. Need to go check to see where she fits in.. sounds awfully familiar, so am guessing she married one of the boys somewhere down the line...
Will check back in when I get home from work..
I do so appreciate what you've done. At least we have something to go on now, as confusing as it still is in some ways.

Re: *Arch tbc* -Marriage of David Harris and Sarah Smith C b1845
I don't seem to be able to find the family on the 1841 Census, but in 1851 Joseph is listed as a Colliery Labourer. Blacksmith to Colliery Labourer doesn't seem to make sense does it.
Oh well, back to the drawing board I guess.

Re: *Arch tbc* -Marriage of David Harris and Sarah Smith C b1845
Quick question.
How can I order the marriage certificate if I can't find a record of the marriage. I can't find the Bloomer marriage on the Free BMD. Where else can I find it and order it from?
I do think that the Harris/Smith isn't the right one, as in 1864 my David would have only been 19.
Thanks ever so much NL..it was really good of you to check this out for me.

I suggest you go via the GRO
either by post or online
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/order ... ndex.asp#0
have a read on that link it is quite straight forward
I use the GRO to order online
you have to register first then give a credit card when you order the certif
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
you need the GRO ref too which is on one of the back posts on this thread...think Jimmy flagged it

Thanks NL.. will look into that.. Now that I've had a chance to have a good read of what you found out about David Harris and Sarah Smith, I have to agree with you in that, they are the wrong couple.
So, looks like it is the Blooomer one.
