Perhaps should say sorry for carrying on so far off topic but I loved the family home made brawn. I think it was made from the pigs cheek and some beef shin. Maybe other people used other things? I did make some, about 20 years ago and it was lovely. Sainsbury's have a passable Brawn on their Deli counter, pretty cheap too. Mike turns his nose up in disgust.
I used to like Haslet in my sandwiches. Not sure I would enjoy that now. What was that made from?

Dad's was made from the pigs cheeks, I thinks the trotters went in as well, but no beef as far I remember.

haslet is as discusting as brawn its made out of kidney, liver, heart lung in a type of meatloaf simlar to brawn

It's more stodgy though and sticks round your teeth,

Brawn should have a lot of jelly in it.

Sounds totally different to me, as my Dad's brawn never had offle in it, or if it did only in small amounts. Although I doubt it, as my Mum dislikes liver and kidneys as much as I do.
Although today I will eat leverpostaj, which is a danish liver paté. Just as long as it's mushed up and not fried whole!!

I remember my gran making a dish that everyone loved (not me I'm afraid) made with brains and eggs.
We used to have brawn - think it was made from the pig's head - sort of "jellied" - lovely on sandwiches
Haslet, kind of meat loaf - really nice I remember, haven't had any in years
My mom makes the best black country faggotts. I couldn't be around when she was making them, didn't really want to see what was going in. I remember she couldn't get some of the stuff during the "mad cow" era. She still makes them now, but someone has to go up to turn the mincer.

No offal in Brawn, just very cheap meat cuts. I think Peter meant Haslet was just as disgusting as, not necessarily same ingredients, just equally awful to his tastes.

Shall I not bring you a plate to sample then Peter?

no thanks dont like either, brains is used in potted meat

not now i dont think espcially beef but sheep and pig ?
